What is your teaching philosophy?

Throughout my teaching experience, I have gathered a plethora of skills that I believe have helped students to excel within the courses that I have instructed. The main fundamental attribute that I have learned is that every individual learns in their own unique way and it is up to me to learn which technique best suits each individual student.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Is my first session with a student, I will take the time to understand the student's educational background in order to move forward through the material we will be learning. Having a good understanding of where a student stands within a course is a key aspect to analyzing the teaching techniques and strategies that I will have to use within a course.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Once a student has shown a significant understanding of the material, I will test a student on a wide variety of the material to ensure that they understand every aspect of the course. Once we both agree that the student has sufficiently learned the material I will ask the student if they believe whether or not they would be able to teach the material to a student that has never studied the course before.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I will help a student stay motivated towards their educational success by showing their improvements that they have made throughout our tutoring sessions. Seeing success within any field of study or work should be motivating to any human being.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would take the time to figure out what concept or skill is difficult to the student and then begin to start with the basic knowledge of the concept in order to see where the material starts to become challenging to the student. From there, I would continue on to teach the material at a pace that is fitting for the student.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

When it comes to reading comprehension, the best way to understand a student's struggles is to analyze the topics and words that a student understands and does not understand. I believe giving a student a passage that has a purpose to the student's life aids in reading comprehension.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I have found utilizing hands-on teaching to be the most successful tool when teaching difficult material. Having students manipulate hands-on learning techniques is crucial towards improving a student's education.
