What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that every student can be a great student, but everyone learns differently. It is so important to know yourself and understand how you learn. Some people learn by hearing, by writing, or by being physically involved in the learning process. Once you understand how you learn, you can learn anything and excel at everything!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session, I want to get to know the student and establish a trusting mentor relationship. I would ask questions about the student's learning style and see how they learn best. If they don't know their learning style, we can figure it out together.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help someone become an independent learner by being patient and instilling confidence in their mental capabilities. I do this by giving positive praise for correct answers or correct logic and steps to getting the right answer. By building someone's confidence in getting correct answers, they become more willing to try to answer questions on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help someone stay motivated by giving positive praise. It's also important to take a break sometimes when you can sense the student is getting restless. Even a 3-minute mental break can do a world of good when hitting a mental block.
