Certified Tutor

I had multiple tutors throughout my high school years and found that none of them were truly effective for me. It is my belief that the reason for this was a lack of understanding my personal learning style. My Philosophy is that adaptability is the key to teaching anyone a new concept.

I've been in Real Estate for over 15 years and am also pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. I am highly proficient in the following areas:
1. English / English Literature
2. Real Estate / Property Management
3. Law Enforcement
4. Legal Research

Additionally, I am an active classroom/ library volunteer at my 9 year old child's elementary school. I work well with all age ranges.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Each student is different and the key is to understand how to best convey the concept. Once the basic fundamentals are in place, everything else will flow from there.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The most important step is to identify their comprehension of the overall concept and work from that point.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I've found that having the information given back to me in the student's own words is the best test of their comprehension.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I like to take some time to learn about the student. I believe that individual interests can often be key in developing a tutoring plan.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

It's important to give appropriate recognition not only to correct answers, but also to improvements in the student's comprehension of the subject. Positive reinforcement is key.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The best motivation comes from gaining confidence in one's own knowledge and ability.
