Certified Tutor
I graduated from Baylor University and received a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science with a Spanish minor. I completed my Teach For America commitment in Memphis, Tennessee, where I taught 4th grade ESL and English Language Arts. I first became interested in tutoring during my sophomore year at Baylor University. I tutored second grade math, and I really enjoyed being able to not only help children understand content, but also instill within them the confidence to succeed. After my commitment with TFA, I knew I wanted to be a lawyer so I could advocate for children and teachers, but I also want to continue directly helping students and encouraging them to succeed. Although I recently graduated from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, I still have a desire to help students learn. My favorite subject to teach is English Language Arts.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that students need to feel encouraged and confident about their learning. Once that confidence is secure, students will be more willing to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes rather than feel defeated. Thus, I want to bring about not only high achieving academic success amongst students, but also instill within them the tenacity to achieve that success.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session, I'd like to spend a couple minutes getting to know the student and learn their goals. Afterwards, I'd begin with the content. The student could then share where their struggles with the material lie, and we can begin learning and creating strategies to effectively master the material and be successful overall.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
First, I would try to understand the ways in which the student learns the best, and help them discover strategies that they can confidently and independently use while learning material in class and studying material at home.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by reassuring them that life comes with mistakes, and we have to accept those mistakes and learn from them. I would make incremental goals for the student each week, so that there is always a small satisfaction of knowing that they are improving each week.
