What is your teaching philosophy?

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introduce myself, ask the student what s/he thinks s/he needs help with, and give the student a few problems to solve.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

First, encourage the student by letting him/her know that s/he has what it takes to understand the material!

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Ask the student what are his/her expectations, set some goals, and keep track of those.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Be patient with the student. Go through a few problems covering said skill/concept.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Remind the student that s/he has the ability. Give the student "easy" exercises, and let the student solve them.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Ask the student what s/he is un/comfortable with.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

A computer, notepad, relevant homework sheet, and school book.
