My name is Nichole Pineault and I am currently a second grade teacher. This is my sixth year teaching, prior to this I substitute taught in four local districts. I graduated from West Chester University in 2013 Cum Laude. I have a strong passion for learning and have always loved sharing this with my students. Through my years as an educator, I have gained a lot of experience with classroom management, team teaching, and fostering a positive and safe learning environment in my classroom. Through my time in both college and in the classroom, I have become very comfortable with the use of technology, both using it personally and having my students use it to take ownership of their own learning. I feel that the use of technology in the classroom, you are able to engage, enrich, and enhance each aspect of a student's learning and tailor that learning to each student as an individual. As an educator, I have learned the most valuable thing you can do for your students is being an advocate for them.

What is your teaching philosophy?
As an educator, I believe it is vital to promote positive learning; spark learner enthusiasm for learning; and to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The session will depend on the type of learner. It will consist of the use of all kinds of learning tools and catering the learning to the developmental level of the individual student.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
It is important to teach students that they just need to acquire the tools necessary to master their own learning. Through teaching studying, reading, and mathematical thinking, the student will become in charge of their own learning.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Children will work hard and remain motivated because they will be the leaders of their own learning. By giving children the ownership, they create intrinsic motivation.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I'd take time to think about what exactly is causing the child to be stuck, and then try introducing the same topic, but in a different context or manner.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
There are many ways to assist with this struggle. One of which is to ask questions that will help lead them to the right answer. Also, it is important to make sure to show the child how to dig deep into the text and look back for the answers.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
It is most important to get to know the child, not only as an individual, but also as a learner. Knowing how children learn best is the greatest way to help them achieve their goals.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Keep the student's interests in mind! No matter what the subject, try to make the content something they can relate to or something they are interested in.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
It is important to start with the content by introducing the information. Then, along side of the student, break down what they have been exposed to. Once the child has dug deep into the material, it is time for them to start evaluating it. After this, the educator will assess the student's understanding.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
In order to build a student's confidence in a subject, it is important to make the content realistic or connect it to the child individually.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
The materials I use are a teacher's book, student work, and manipulatives based on the content.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I evaluate student needs through our interactions, my anecdotal notes, and also through conversations with the child and the parent.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
My end goal is to best serve the child. Depending on their learning style, I will decide what type of tutor I need to be.
