Hello! I am an ESL teacher (English as a Second Language) with four years of teaching experience and eight years of experience tutoring and training in a variety of subjects, including Spanish.
I am especially passionate about the language learning process and hope to be of service to you in your academic pursuits.
During my last position as an English teacher in China, I had over 500 primary school students with very basic English knowledge and found it very rewarding to be able to help them interact in class and learn English in a fun way.
I have also worked with adults in a university setting, and have had successful results with helping them move forward in their language acquisition abilities.
I am adaptable, energetic, and like to work with each student's interests and needs to adjust his or her learning and make the process as enjoyable as it can be.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy consists of understanding the learner's needs, aiming to find the fun or enjoyable aspects in the material being learned, and looking at what is learned from a variety of applicable perspectives.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student by showing them tools they may not be aware of that will help them grow confident in their own strengths. I also aim to help them see that their learning is interesting to their lives in some way.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try different ways of approaching said skill or concept. I think it's good to start from what the student knows and build upon that. Then, isolate the areas that becomes difficult, and work on them at a pace the student feels comfortable wit. Also, use different kinds of applications so that the student is exposed to various ways of approaching more challenging learning areas.
