Mahdika
Certified Tutor
Everyone has a particular learning style and method by which retaining information becomes effortless. Finding that gem is the key- and this is where having a tutor can really help you excel. Often students do not have as much difficulty understanding a topic, if only it is presented in a manner they personally can digest.
I believe that we all have the potential to do great things, in our studies, our personal lives, and in the lives of others- we just have to take that initiative. Taking the initiative to seek a tutor to assist in your educational goals requires dedication and courage. As a physician who has had extensive educational experience, I am very passionate about learning, teaching, and helping others.
I look forward to helping you grow, unlock your full potential and surpass your goals!

What is your teaching philosophy?
Everyone has a particular learning style and method by which retaining information becomes effortless. Finding that gem is the key- and this is where having a tutor can really help you excel. Often students do not have as much difficulty understanding a topic, if only it is presented in a manner they personally can digest. This is the part I am truly passionate about-- tailoring learning to the needs of the client so that they too may experience that moment when the "light bulb" turns on and everything clicks :).
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
A first session is crucial to the projective framework of future sessions- it lays the foundation. It is at this point when I am able to determine learning styles, goals, trouble areas, and discuss specific coursework/lectures etc. I think it is also important to talk about logistics- times, days, location, etc. And if the student is excited and ready to begin- we will!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By providing a "student framework". This is an effective strategy whereby the tutor provides the student with the skills, resources and study methods necessary to succeed independently. So often we are presented with information in classes, but very seldom are we taught "how" to interpret this information, how to retain it, etc. I think this is crucial to future success.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Often a student’s discouragement can dampen their motivation. This is where a lively tutor comes in! Motivation comes naturally in a setting where goals have been established and are being met. When you finally can grasp concepts-- you are no longer discouraged and see your potential... this is an empowering motivator.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would approach the concept in a different way- - it's not always what you say but how you say it! I make it my personally goal to make sure my students understand the materials being presented.
