What is your teaching philosophy?

I teach my students how they would be taught if their memory was erased; bit by bit.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

An ice breaker, ask the students what they know about the subject, and an actual written assessment to give a baseline.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Yes, when I teach, I give students a push, and eventually they fly on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would show them the sweet rewards of their hard work, and tell them this is what you can achieve if you just press on. The grind doesn’t stop.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would attempt to try another method to better suit them, such as flashcards, online games, and maybe even more real-world examples they could be more engaged in.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would slow it down, and try to gradually increase the difficulty of the problems that we are doing so that they don't feel overwhelmed.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

To start slow, let them show me what they are capable of, instead of me assuming they are at a level of understanding they are not at yet.
