What is your teaching philosophy?
I am a high-energy, lively and funny teacher. I like when students are engaged with the material on a real world level. Whatever the goal is, I look at real life examples to make the material more relevant, and coincidentally, better understood.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first session should be about getting to know each other. The main goal and how we plan to reach that goal should also be discussed. This is the time I can get a feel for who the student is and what might work best.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Teaching students to think for themselves is really important. I try to focus on real life experiences so the student understands the content and can apply it independently.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I like to make learning fun so students aren't bored. I choose a multitude of activities and games that promote learning as well. I like to use physical movement in learning as well. If you can practice your multiplication tables while playing catch, why not?
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
There has to be a way to teach the concept, and it's my job to figure out how. I would try many different types of teaching or presenting the information until the student understands. I love to see when the content "clicks!"
