I graduated from New York University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilization and minors in Biology and English & American Literature. I have been working in academic publishing since then, a field I entered because of my life-long love of books and learning. The various positions I have had over the years have all required a large amount of proofreading and promotional writing, evaluation of book proposals and manuscripts, and extensive communication with academics, researchers, and professionals. I'm currently a Math Editor at one of the largest international academic publishing houses, a position in which I've utilized my strong mathematical interest and ability. Math and science have been two of my favorite subjects since middle school, and I follow the developments in these fields both in my career and in my spare time.
I believe that students do their best when they have passionate teachers who can inspire them to want to learn a subject, especially one that can cause as much frustration as math sometimes does. Simply learning material in order to take a standardized test, or memorizing facts and formulae without being exposed to how or why they work, is tedious and difficult, and ultimately can leave students feeling defeated if they are struggling. When guided by someone who is passionate about a subject, and allowed to discover certain concepts on their own, students can not only learn the material, but gain an appreciation for it as well. This will then, I feel, translate into both better grades and better attitudes towards their academics. I hope to be able to use my own knowledge and passion for math and science to help students achieve their goals and come to enjoy learning.
