I earned my BA from Yale University and MA from Brown University, focusing in the humanities and museum work, and I enjoy learning and teaching history, literature, and writing. I've given a lot for my education, but it's given me more in return: opening endless opportunities to interpret, interact with, and contribute to the world.
I'm passionate about teaching and have worked with students of all ages as section leader at the Great Books Summer Program at Stanford University, teacher at an alternative high school, and educational programmer at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and Yale Art Gallery. Whether making standardized testing less stressful, college essays personally meaningful, or history relevant, my teaching aims to help students tap into the power of education for themselves: what do they want to experience, understand, and create, and how can I use my educational expertise to support their goals?
In addition to teaching, I'm also a fiddler, singer, and dancer. I enjoy visiting history, art, and science museums, debating politics, playing tennis, and reading.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I begin with respect: what are my students' existing passions, skills, and experiences, and how can I help them use these assets to achieve their particular academic, personal, and life goals?
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know my student--their background and goals--and then set out a timeline and plan of action for achieving success.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Practice strategies for efficient and enjoyable studying, and help the student find motivation within themselves to continue these practices on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Find points of connection between the topic being studied and pre-existing passions and goals. Alternatively, find ways to make the process of studying more enjoyable and rewarding.
