I first started tutoring Math at Gordon State College. I enjoy being able to make a difference for the students I work with. Growing relationships with them week by week to insure they were getting the proper help each time, and seeing their success was amazing! It's always a good feeling knowing you've played a part in someone else having a better chance at being successful. I strive to ensure a positive and impactful experience each and every time I meet with my students.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that anyone is capable of learning anything; it just takes confidence in oneself.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Ask questions to get an understanding of where exactly in the material they might have gotten lost. I might also ask questions to see how they prefer to learn material.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By giving them tools that can help and by reassuring them that they are more than capable of doing it alone.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By using humor and or positive reinforcements.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try to work different viewpoints or find examples with more relatable content that suits the student.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Break down the material into smaller and less intimidating sections.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Being patient is the biggest thing.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By using my humor or relating the content to a familiar hobby of the student.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Ask follow up questions. Ask review questions. Get the student to explain it to me in their own words.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Positive reinforcement.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By asking concerning questions.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
By being observant of what pace or setting they work in best.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use the internet mostly because it's the biggest tool we have these days.
