Certified Tutor
I have been a teacher for three years. I have taught third and second grade and plan to "loop" up with my third graders and teach fourth grade. I have been tutoring one on one with students for three years as well. I have experience tutoring students of all ages in all subject areas as well. Sometimes the student just needs additional help in fluency while others need help understanding abstract concepts and working on critical thinking and problem solving. In addition I tutor STEM, Math, and Reading for third grade through sixth grade before school at my current elementary school.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Different strategies work best with different students. It really depends on where they need work and what steps they need to learn in order to show growth in those areas.
What is your teaching philosophy?
Make the content relatable to the student's needs as well, as interests, and they will be more invested in their learning.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Assess their academic needs and strengths, as well as identify ways I can improve their learning success.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Ask guiding questions.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Connect the content to what they are interested in and make their investment in learning more strong. You can also help them find what they want to be in their future, and this will show them why learning is important: to get to their end goal.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Present different ways of solving the problem that may help the student understand stronger.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I like to perform close reading, where a student reads a passage multiple times, each time analyzing multiple aspects of the reading, helping them gain a stronger comprehension understanding.
