Alejandro
Certified Tutor
I obtained a Bachelors in Science with a major in psychology from Barry University in 2012. After college, I took one year to travel abroad and experience different cultures around the world. I have always had a passion for learning and for imparting my knowledge onto other individuals. I took this opportunity to enhance my interpersonal skills and cultural knowledge. During my college years I became a private tutor for different subjects such as elementary math, algebra, SSAT prep, reading and writing among others. I taught various students ranging from 1st grade to seniors in high school. I took great pleasure in seeing my students progress throughout their academic years. I consider my teaching style to be very flexible as I like to allow my students' personality and strengths to mold my style. Moreover, I am an advocate of individualized learning as every child is different and unique in their own way. I have worked as a case manager for the past 2 years with children ages 5 to 18 where I provided social services and assistance to improve their social, psychological, and educational functioning. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, playing and watching sports such as soccer, and reading comics and novels.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe an instructor should be able to accommodate to the needs and personality of each student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know the student better and try to assess what their true academic weaknesses are, so that time may be used efficiently
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By helping them see that with effort comes improvements. There is no better motivation than results.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Find a way to relate that concept to the student's interests so it can be better understood.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
By making sure that I know the student that I'm working with so that I may cater my tutoring to their personality
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By relating the material to the student's interests and hobbies and helping them see that nothing is too hard
