I am a native Spanish speaker and have always been attracted to Linguistics, especially applied Linguistics. I studied Hispanic Language and Literature at the National University of Mexico, and got certified to teach English as a Foreign/Second Language. At the same time I finished my Bachelors Degree in Voice at the National Conservatory of Music, graduating with Honors. I taught English at the University in Mexico before moving to New York City to pursue my Masters and Doctor of Musical Arts Degrees in Vocal Performance at the Manhattan School of Music.
In addition to Spanish and English, I also speak Italian, French, and am learning German. Learning these languages as an adult, and the first two as a child, has given me a wide perspective of what it takes to learn a new tongue at different ages.
I also enjoy a successful career on stage as a mezzo-soprano, performing opera, zarzuela, chamber and orchestral repertoire around the world.
As a musician, I have learned that many strategies for learning music can also be applied to learning a new language, and I try to integrate these strategies with those of the students as much as possible to get better results.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Being an artist allows me to be creative in my teaching, which I really enjoy. I always find it rewarding when my students—both in the musical and linguistic fields—discover new horizons in communication and expression. It is my strong belief that the more fun and motivating the learning process is, the more memorable the presented material becomes. Therefore I reinforce acknowledgement of the student’s progress to achieve more confidence and as a result, better performance. I also believe that each student has particular needs. I like to teach the individual and based on their strengths develop a stronger process to reach their goals, always working on those points that need to develop more to achieve proficiency.
