My passion is connecting people with information and data. It's not always readily apparent how this can be done, or how I can convince people that the information is worth knowing. That's why, as a teacher, as a developer, and as a human being, it is my responsibility to make that information both accessible and useful. This can be best accomplished by connecting with people, discovering their passions and motivations, and relating information to them in an understandable and enjoyable way. Knowledge and information empowers all of us to live better, more fulfilling lives and brings us together as human beings.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe students learn best when engaged with something they are passionate about. It's the responsibility of teachers and mentors to find and use those passions as frames of reference when relating subjects to students. Additionally, this allows students to see the knowledge being implemented in a way they can relate to and understand.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Assess their learning needs, discover their learning style, and get to know them as a person.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By instilling motivation to seek out knowledge that interests the student. This can be done by appealing to each student uniquely and tapping into what they're passionate about.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Discipline and work can be hard, but it's important to remind the student of the end goal and the greater rewards that are achieved by those who push themselves.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I attempt to approach the material in a new and novel way by relating it to a skill or concept the student was familiar with and a topic the student has an interest in.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I recommend techniques and strategies to help learn and retain new vocabulary and promote comprehension.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

By establishing a rapport and trying to engage the student by challenging them to think critically.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I use interesting and fun facts about the subject to try to entice the student.
