What is your teaching philosophy?

Learning through fun, multi-approached practicing!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

See where the strengths and weaknesses are, and build from there.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Create similar questions, offer new ways to approach the material, and then take it to the next level to ensure they have the material/process completely clear.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Show them how much they actually know and then help them build more content/critical thinking of the material.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try a different approach. Everyone learns differently. Some are a visual, tactile, audio learner or a combination of those. If one doesn't work other approaches can!

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Take each component of the literary piece and break it down to more understandable/simpler terms.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Give the student as much control of the situation in terms of showing me what they know and to take me step by step through their thought process. This helps me assess how to best explain whatever is missing or not making sense.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Break the material down into relatable concepts. I find it is always easier to learn when the material is applicable to daily life.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

A combination of audio, visual, and tactile techniques in problem solving.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Start from where they are most comfortable with the topic and then introduce more complex problems to help develop critical thinking.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Having them explain to me how they would go about solving a problem or tackling a particular task. From there, I can then intervene and help explain the rest.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Everyone learns differently. Having extensive background in the biological and social sciences I think in multiple different ways, which is helpful in approaching content in different ways.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Problem sets that can help the material become clear and approachable.
