I am an Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineer who loves helping and studying math, science, and engineering! One of my greatest strengths is teaching and tutoring. I have been a martial arts instructor to individuals ages three to 60, so I understand how to teach all age ranges. I have tutored college students in a professional atmosphere for over three years. Within that tutoring, I have instructed college-level math and science courses. My passion is help as many people as I am able.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I choose to help achieve every goal a student desires! We will work hard, but smart. You can do it. You have greatness within you!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I am goal oriented, so I would first discuss and write down the student's goals and dreams. By writing it down, we can review the steps to get there. Your goals are possible to accomplish!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
First, we will work as a team to understand the problem at hand. Slowly as an understanding is created, the student may try the problems themselves while having the ability to ask questions.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Positive affirmations and thoughts will keep us motivated. When you work with me, we only work in a motivated environment. One of my favorite things to do is to listen to the greatest motivational speaker in the world, Les Brown. A two minute speech will pick up anyone!
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
We would break down the concept into parts. By taking the problem step-by-step, we will accomplish that problem. We also will attack the concept or skill at all angles.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
We will break down the reading passages into parts. By asking critical questions at unique points throughout the reading, we both will gain an understanding of the meaning behind the words.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Goal-setting and self-confidence are key to be successful. We will build up together a great plan to accomplish your academic goals. Practice problems can also be key to success!
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
We would talk about why the subject is important and talk about why the student is struggling with it. Usually the student is just looking at the subject from the wrong angle. By changing our mindset, we can approach subjects an engaging manner!
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I use several ways to stimulate understanding including practice problems, verbal questions, flash cards, repetition, and more. We will assess the understanding through a fun, creative problem set.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Confidence is key to having success is any subject. We will start with basic questions to gain understanding and build confidence. Then we will build up step by step to tougher problems. I may easily motivate students, since I am already a motivational speaker.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
We will together, as a team, take a short question and answer session. By answering unique questions, I will be able to see what the student needs and form a game plan to solve those needs. I am very successful when it comes to creating game plans for individual students.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I may take several approaches depending on how the student likes to learn. These could include visual or audio ways of learning. We also will understand if the student responds better to practice problems, tests, or through note taking. I have a great strength in finding every way possible to help students.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use a well-prepared notebook, textbooks, lecture notes, note cards, practice problems, and practice tests. I always have my laptop ready for any online tools that will be beneficial.
