Certified Tutor
Learning should be fun. I strongly believe that students learn best when they are engaged in the learning process, so my goal in each tutoring session is to create interest in the subject, to get students excited about learning. There is so much out there to explore and sometimes there is not enough time in a classroom to really dive into a subject. In my tutoring sessions, we will explore the subject together to encourage comprehension instead of rote memorization. The best way to learn, even on a time-crunch, is to connect to the subject matter. With my wide range of expertise, we should have no problem getting excited about the subject together!
I have over two years of experience tutoring in essay-writing, SAT Reading, Writing, and Essay prep, and AP Biology. In high school, I took and passed the AP World History (3), AP Biology (4), and AP English Literature (5) tests. I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a degree in Creative Writing and Anthropology, with a minor in Ecology and recognition in English Honors. I received my Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing in January 2017 through the Stonecoast MFA Program in the University of Southern Maine.
As a relatively young tutor, I connect well with students from middle school up through college. Most recently I have worked with Swedish high school students, helping to improve their written English, assisting in test study and preparation, and teaching World History, Biology, and English Literature comprehension. It was only a few years ago that I applied to college myself, so I have recent (successful) experience writing College Application Essays. With over ten years of experience in academic writing, I am available to look at any type of school essay for areas in need of improvement. Be it the five-paragraph essay, preparation for the SAT essay portion, or an MLA paper on the literary themes of Shakespeares Othello, I am well-equipped to assess your essay the way a teacher or professor would. More than that, I will work with you to improve the essay and learn how to write even better in the future. I am excited to work with you to help you to become the best student you can be.

What is your teaching philosophy?
The best way for a student to learn is if they are excited about the material. I am an enthusiastic and engaged tutor, always trying to lead my students through the learning process in as fun a way as possible. No question is a stupid question, as I believe students should have the whole world to explore academically. In order to help students learn course or test subjects, I will lead where necessary and encourage their creativity and engagement whenever possible.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
We would get to know each other by talking about the things that interest us. I would evaluate the student's skills and use the things the student gets excited about to help them in areas where they could use improvement. We may end the lesson with a short assignment that will help the student and I dive into the subject we will be studying together.
