Certified Tutor

Hi there! I'm a fourth year medical student pursuing a career in Psychiatry and hospital administration. I have excelled throughout my years in schooling and hope to share my educational expertise with you! I have extensive experience working with learners in different academic settings, and genuinely enjoy the art of teaching. I have tutored students of all ages, ranging from elementary school to medical school I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Miami in 2012 with a major in psychology and minors in Biology & Chemistry. I went on to attend medical school at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.

I have successfully taken and performed well on the SAT, MCAT, and United States Medical Licensing Exams (USMLE). My teaching style and learning approach are very similar. In order to fully understand a topic, one should feel comfortable explaining the information to a complete stranger. I hope to create a fun and educational environment to help students succeed! I look forward to working with you.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that all students have the ability to do well and succeed with the right support and mentorship!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know them and their learning style! Then develop and approach what will work well for both of us.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Encourage them to learn efficiently and teach them steps to succeed.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Positive reinforcement and encouragement.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Continuously go over it with them to the point where they would feel comfortable teaching it to a stranger.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Read with them, and then have them do it independently, with constant reinforcement and subject comprehension.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Develop an approach that works mutually.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Relate it to the real world and emphasize the importance of doing well in school.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Practicing questions are the best way to learn and ensure understanding.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Get them excited about what they are about to learn and the possibility to do well!

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Work with them for several hours to see their learning style and approach.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

See what works and what does not. In the beginning it is all trial and error.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Flashcards, internet resources, images, and writing things out.
