I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Rocco: Deerfield tutor

Certified Tutor

I am young professional aspiring to lend my hand to those who wish to be educated and expand their minds in the areas of science, math, problem solving, and of course the act of living well. I have a degree from the Pennsylvania State University in Secondary Education in chemistry and I've had experience leading several very diverse science and mathematics classrooms. I'm an incredibly driven person with a work ethic and determination that will undoubtedly prove useful for students of any classroom. My goals are lofty but practical and I have every intention and ability to make them happen.

My biggest goal of course, is to show my students how to achieve theirs! More than anything, I wish to show students the path toward their own talents and desires for learning and growth. I've got a lot of great methods for doing so and am ready to challenge each person who comes to learn from me! My ideal world is one where I get to work on an individual basis with each person and find what exactly it is that makes them tick and then set them on the path to starting their clocks!

I plan to do this by setting up a very spacious, open, and accepting learning space where focus on the task at hand and consistency are paramount. My students will undertake daily routines to push them step by step toward their bigger goals. Everyone who comes to me will not just learn science or math or problem solving, but how to achieve their own wishes.

As far as what kind of person I am, it's hard to sum up. But I enjoy reading, writing, talking (a lot!), and of course listening. In fact, I suppose my favorite activities involve communication with other people, and with myself. But I also love music I catalogue it meticulously, and I'm a huge fan of games too! I'm an avid runner with a hopefully not-so-annoying knowledge of nutrition and exercise. I'm also a very philosophical person and spend a lot of my time reviewing and studying ideologies and even practicing some on a regular basis. I'm a very individualistic person I work very efficiently on my own and place an enormous importance on my own personal morals. But I love people! I believe life is best lived with others, and many of the best things about this existence come from human beings. My philosophy on life is to live as well as you can be the best you possible. And do everything you can to help others with this too

What is your teaching philosophy?

I do everything that I can as a teacher to treat learning as the process that it is. It often takes time to grow to a point of understanding for a new concept, but with dedicated practice and unquenchable focus, it can always be done. The students that I teach will always have the space they need for deep thinking, reflection, and most importantly, consistency. Any good teacher knows that consistency is key - especially in mathematics and science. I strive to give my students the opportunity for consistent practice and thought building. However, I remain confident in knowing that it is always the student themselves who will make the discovery - always the pupil who ends up teaching his or herself.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session, I want to know what you already know, and what you want to learn the most. There are so many topics in each subject, so we have to focus our attention on what is most important to you!
