What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session I will evaluate a student’s needs and goals for the subject or course. We will discuss both short term and long-term goals for the subject and areas that the student believes they need the most focus. We will also discuss strategies the student can use for improving study skills and organization in the subject.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

In order for a student to be an independent learner they must have the skills and confidence to do so. During our tutoring sessions we will include the skills that a student needs to work independently and improve their study skills. With new strategies and study abilities the student will be on their way to being a confident, independent learner.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Being motivated and staying motivated with a subject have to do with a student's interest in the subject. By including interesting topics and making the subject fun, it is easier for a student to stay motivated.
