Certified Tutor

I'm a recent graduate from Regent University School of Law, where I earned my law degree in 2 years. I'm passionate about investing in students because I know the profound impact that my teachers made on my life. If I hadn't had teachers in high school, college, and law school who were willing to spend their personal time mentoring and tutoring me, I would not have excelled to my current position. Therefore, I endeavor to give others the same one-on-one help that I received. Every student deserves a patient teacher who will help deepen and strengthen the student's understanding of his or her coursework.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy involves spending time getting to know each student to better understand how he or she thinks. Then, I tailor my teaching methods to enhance each student's ability to comprehend and grow in his or her understanding of the subject matter.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

During a typical first session, I would spend 5 to 10 minutes getting to know the student, and allowing the student to get to know me. Then, I would talk with the student in order to discover (1) what areas he or she are struggling in, (2) whether the student is a visual or auditory learner, and (3) whether the student has a favorite learning tool, i.e., diagram, chart, outline, picture, and etc. Then, I would tailor my teaching methods to that specific student, and I would delve into the tutoring session.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The more practice a student has with engaging a particular subject, the better equipped a student is to become an independent learner. Therefore, in order to encourage a student to become an independent learner, I would provide homework exercises for the student to work on, and then go over each individual exercise during the next tutoring session.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

In order to help the student stay motivated, I would provide constant encouragement in the student's ability to succeed. I would also help the student stay goal-oriented. For example, if the student has a dream that he or she is working towards, motivation to achieve that dream usually follows.
