How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Understand their learning style.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Interactive activities.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Approach it a different way.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Getting to know them and what motivates them in learning.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

We all learn differently so, I would see what the individual student wants to accomplish by taking the class.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Depending on the age, tutoring a child has to be approached differently from tutoring an adult.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I have created my curriculum before and have used school textbooks, as well as books, movies, songs, and recipes to tap into the student's passion.

What is your teaching philosophy?

As a tutor my job is to share and guide my passion of French to my students. Begin tri-lingual since a very young age has allowed me to share my passion of languages and appreciation of various cultures. Whether you have to learn French academically, for business, or are preparing for a trip in France or Francophone country, I will ensure that you learn with fun.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Getting to know the student and why they want to learn French.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Everyone learns differently, so it's important to use different tools .

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Conversation, explanation and interaction.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Positive reinforcement.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

The best way to evaluate a student's needs are to have open communication with the student (and parents if applicable) and see that they are not shy about putting in practice what is being taught.
