I was born and raised in China. In 2000, I came to United States with my husband to pursue my master degree in Nutritional Science in University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. I have two girls both born in US. I have been teaching them Chinese language and culture. Five years ago I started teaching Chinese in our city Chinese School. I am very passionate about teaching the Chinese culture and language to the younger generation in US. By knowing more Chinese culture, learning Chinese could be more interesting and useful.

Depending on the different students with different goals, I will use different teaching technique to fit your needs. From listening, speaking, to reading and writing, learning Mandarin Chinese should be step by step and also should be fun. I would like to introduce many tools in the lesson-videos, songs, Microsoft office PowerPoint, cards and books. Lets work together to make a fun learning journey.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Learning a language is a journey of learning the culture.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Talk about what the student likes and dislikes. Get more detail about the student's goal is and the reason that he/she wants to learn Chinese. Do a small test for the student at the intermediate level or up to estimate the level of Chinese, and discuss with the student a possible teaching strategy.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Teaching them tools to learn, such as using a dictionary or useful apps.
