I graduated with a neuroscience concentration in biology from Stony Brook University recently where I was also a teaching assistant for biology classes. I am a tutor for middle and high school biology and chemistry, as well as elementary and middle school math. The role of an excellent tutor is to provide clarity and context - to act as a guide in learning, not an answer key. I understand how to deconstruct complex ideas into basic concepts and to build knowledge on strong fundamentals. Rather than bombard a student with information, I want to communicate and receive feedback to understand how they learn. One-on-one tutoring allows students the opportunity to learn at their own pace which is especially important for those in the NYC school system. Aside from academics, I enjoy writing/ playing music, cooking, and traveling.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a primary session, I want to assess how literate the student is in that subject. This allows me to review any major gaps in fundamental concepts before addressing questions at a higher level.
