¡Hola! My name is Jennifer and I am currently a high school Spanish teacher. I love teaching and I love the Spanish language and culture. I studied abroad and lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I believe in the power and importance of education and being bilingual. I believe in teaching the target language in context so that my students can acquire the language and learn how to speak and use the language in real-life situations. I teach with a lot of comprehensible input and visuals to help my students with language acquisition.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe all students have the potential to learn and acquire a second language to the point of proficiency. I adapt my teaching strategies to meet the needs of each individual learner. I incorporate activities for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would assess the student's need and level. I would also assess what kind of learner the student is, and I would adapt my lesson to meet those needs.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will implement questioning that involves higher-order thinking skills and critical thinking, so that the student will grow and be able to make inferences on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would implement the student's personal interests and real-life situations to make learning more interactive and engaging.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would re-teach the material in a different way. I would play a review game following the lesson.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would do basic reading comprehension activities, and from there increase the level of difficulty so that the student would gradually build on their skills.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I think it is important to get to know a student personally and figure out their personal learning style.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would implement their interests in the lesson and play games.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would do questioning and comprehension checks.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I would build on what they know and help them see their growth. I would scaffold my lessons so the difficulty increases throughout the lesson, so students witness their growth and personal learning throughout the lesson.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I assess them on the material and, from this, evaluate their needs.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I would use a lot of visuals.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I adapt my lesson to the student's specific learning style.
