Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Hampton University and The American University in Cairo. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Arts and my Master of Arts in Journalism. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively in Africa and the Caribbean—tutoring, teaching and coaching professionals along the way.


While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and early childhood education. In my experience I have helped students learn English as a second language and helped native English speakers command the language through experiential learning and exercises.


I am a firm proponent of technology in education, believing it to be absolutely
necessary as a tool (not a teacher) for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. With technology in education Standards of Learning becoming more challenging with every successive academic year, I see the use of technology as a must.


I am an educator by inheritance. My mother, grandmother, sisters and a host of relatives are or were all teachers. I continued to teach throughout my career as a teacher for the US Peace Corps, for various charities that offered English as a second language, as a professor of journalism in the Caribbean and as a private tutor for business owners who wanted to understand marketing communications well enough to make wise investment decisions. Out of all those categories of experience my favorite continues to be the Pre-K and kindergarten students. I've worked in both mainstream, Head Start and VA Preschool Initiative classrooms.

My most rewarding experience has been in classrooms abroad where I applied knowledge of language arts and math instruction in kindergarten and secondary school classrooms.
