I am a graduate of the University of Mary Washington. I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a focus in Social Experimental Psychology and the Psychology of Eating.
Following graduation, I returned to SW Florida and joined the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) college readiness program piloting in my home town. In small groups, I fostered a collaborative, inquisitive academic environment applying Socratic-method instruction and advanced level questioning and problem-solving attitude. It was as an AVID GDL that I realized my passion for preparing students for college admission and success.
I expanded this passion out to the community, offering private sessions for students and parents navigating the college admissions process. Drawing on my background in learning and motivational psychology, as well as my experiences and training as an AVID GDL, I specialize in an adaptable, mentoring instruction style, especially effective for students facing unusual circumstances or special needs. While I tutor everything from academic prep through scholarship applications, I find the most satisfaction during the college essay process, as the student and I weave together their most important experiences into a compelling admission essay. Several of my previous students were invited to apply for internal scholarships following the submission of their application essay!
In my spare time, I enjoy training service dogs for returning veterans, horseback riding, hiking, and playing basketball with my housemates. After I finish establishing residency in Virginia, I anticipate pursuing a Masters in School/Educational Psychology.
