Certified Tutor

I am currently working towards finishing my medical residency in psychiatry and hope to specialize in child /adolescent psychiatry .I believe a good education is the foundation necessary to excel in our professional life and it is a privilege for me to work with the scholars of tomorrow to help them achieve their goals. Throughout my college career at Northeastern University in Boston I have always found time to get involved with teaching opportunities. I was a tutor at a Health Sciences Academy after school program where I spend time working with 9th and 10th graders on activities such as their homework, science projects, and computer labs. I have also worked with a younger age group as a member of a pre-school Head Start program and engaged the children in activities such as introduction to reading and writing, play-time, and development of social skills. After college, I worked as a teacher at a facility geared towards developing cognitive and functional skills in adults with various mental health issues. I have had the pleasure of working with clients of varying age groups and skills. My experiences have always been rewarding and teaching has remained one of my passions to this day.

My philosophy when it comes to teaching revolves around preparedness, patience, and empathy. I believe that there is no subject one cannot learn with enough time and effort. I enjoy teaching various subjects such as Biology, Physiology, and Psychology. Regardless of the subject matter I first analyze the student’s strength and weaknesses and develop my curriculum to best suit the students needs. I believe there is always a way to teach even the most complicated material in a palatable manner. Also, as a future physician, I have well-developed interpersonal skills so I always take into account the feedback and emotional needs of my client. I strive to achieve the most nurturing and productive learning environment and gage my success by my client’s eagerness to learn and master the subject at hand. Lastly, I believe that learning should be fun and successes celebrated so that as the student continues on his journey of academic pursuit he will have a sense of pride and knowledge that no goal is unattainable. I look forward to joining you in this journey and making your academic goals a reality

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that with proper encouragement and guided study time every student has the potential to succeed. Everyone learns and understands subjects in unique ways, and that must be taken into account by the tutor when teaching.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would try to learn about the student to see what their learning style is like so I can best accommodate that.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

You can help a student become an independent learner by holding them responsible for their assignments and reminding them of their daily goals and accomplishments so they will feel encouraged and confident.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I help the student stay motivated by breaking down the material into manageable sections, so after the student masters each one, he/she will feel motivated to continue.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I attempt to explain the concept in various ways and encourage the student to continue trying until the concept is clear.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I will have the student try to teach me the subject.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I ask simple questions first, and then build up their confidence to conquer more advanced questions.
