We reviewed for their unit 3 exam, which is Feb 20th. We covered specific problems the girls found challenging on the review. Mostly, we went over Changing Dimensions problems, and then worked on memorizing the rules for Rotations on a graph.

Today's session was mainly focusing on solving squares and then applying those solutions to quadratic equations. This is really just a new application of an already mastered skill, so there were no troubles today.

Tutoring review by Kasra in Midtown, NE
In this session with the student, we reviewed more of Chapter 5, which covers factoring quadratic equations and using the FOIL method. Since I saw him last week, he has made amazing strides with regard to his knowledge of this material. He already was picking it up very quickly, and today he was at the point of doing most of the problems in his head with little to no errors. He was able to focus and stay motivated throughout the entire session. He struggled a little bit with factoring equations in the form of differences of two squares, but picked it up very quickly with just a little bit of guidance from me. For extra practice, I told him to practice some more of these problems on his own. At the end of our session, I had him complete problems from the textbook chapter test, and he did very well. I am confident that he will do very well on this exam, and I look forward to seeing how it goes. He informed me that he has finally raised his math grade up to an A, and so I am happy that our sessions are proving very beneficial.

Tutoring review by Hannah in Midtown, NE
The student and I revised the practice SAT essay she wrote, and then we discussed strategies for writing effective theses and topic sentences. We then switched gears and practiced with a sentence-improvement section. She has really improved her ability to recognize syntax, grammar, and punctuation errors, and I worked with her on some key skills like recognizing which problems are difficult and areas where the SAT writers try to trick test takers. Then we practiced brainstorming and outlining the essay, as well as coming up with unique ways to use advanced vocabulary words in the SAT essay. We then came up with a plan for things to practice between now and her SAT test date.

Tutoring review by Pranav in Midtown, NE
Today I worked with the student on his prior tests/quizzes and the topics he had trouble on. He seems to have some of the steps down but is confused by the notation and wording of some problems. His main trouble arises from which method to use and when and I cleared that up today. He seems to understand what he did wrong on the last unit. He was cooperative and polite.

Tutoring review by Yemi in Midtown, NE
The student and I went over systems of equations and systems of inequalities. We looked at word problems that involve systems of equations with cost, perimeter, area, and number of items. She can solve them by substitution, elimination, or graphing. She learned which way to shade for graphs of inequalities. We also went over recursive sequences, which can include adding or multiplying a number to get to the next term. She is feeling more confident about the material. Once we go over something, she is amazed at how quickly she learns something. I feel that when someone talks something over with her, she has a better understanding of the material. I am confident that she will improve on her next exam.
