Today the student and I worked on cell biology science, word definitions for literacy, and his upcoming test Monday on the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. He is dramatically better organized than when we started months ago.

Today's session started with our biggest writing project yet- I asked the student to write a 3-5 page creative piece about a haunted house. After that, we did vocab flashcard practice with her current word list. Lastly, we discussed reading interests in preparation for creating the reading list. She said that I selected some difficult words for vocabulary, but she seemed to be getting the definitions more and more with every round of flashcards. I asked her to draw a picture that represents the definition of each word on its card for next time; this is an exercise that seems to help get a definition into some children's bones, so to speak. She also told me she got a 98 on her first book report- WAY TO GO! She continues to be incredibly fun to work with, and she is really, really funny.

The student started with reading her sight words. She read all of them correctly to me. She read her book. She read the book really well. After, she read her class reading book. She read this book so much more fluently today than she did yesterday! She answered a comprehension question. I scrambled her spelling words for her to unscramble them back to me. She finished by spelling half of her sight words. She got three of them wrong so I went over them with her.

The concepts we covered were integration by parts, integration using trigonometric substitution techniques and chain rule, Simpson's rule approximation, and arc length. The student had a positive attitude towards the concepts being discussed and was very confident during the entire online session.
