Tutoring review by Anne in Elk Grove, CA
Our session focused on going carefully through old concepts. I posed more difficult problems than the class had covered within each topic to ensure that the concepts were solidified. The student enthusiastically accepted the challenge and demonstrated the ability to synthesize information and apply it to unfamiliar problems. She did great!

We went through translation of different functions. I explained to her how she has apply different rules to find the translation and graph them. I showed her how she can use t table to graph each function by using the parent function. We solved several questions on them. She understood them and she needs to review and practice them. She is doing well.

Tutoring review by Jessica in Elk Grove, CA
Today, I met with the student and brought her some books and practice problems that she can try at home. Her mom requested some materials for her to use as a reference. We reviewed rounding briefly, then she worked on addition homework, which she worked on independently and had me check. She was successful with the complex addition. We focused on subtraction with regrouping. She had a physical place value block that I brought for her use, and she also saw the models drawn on paper as well. As we were regrouping, she was conceptually understanding the idea of regrouping. I left her with some problems to try later to keep her practicing up!

Tutoring review by Chris in Elk Grove, CA
The student and I spent the session working on trigonometric identity problems. Her class recently covered the sum and difference identities, so we worked on problems related to those from an assignment she had. This type of problem involves proofs, which are often something unfamiliar to students at this point, so they are particularly challenging. I believe we made good progress and that she has a good grasp of the process now. I gave her pointers on many of her other questions before we finished and just stressed that practice is what will make all of this easy for her. As a lead up to the new identities, we also reviewed the old identities and spent some time discussing how to derive new identities from them. Hopefully this lessens the memorization burden while also adding a little extra practice.

Today, we went over the two rules involving midlines of trapezoids and triangles. The student understands the concepts, and I encouraged her to slow down a bit when working on them.
