The student and I had our last session before her math final. We went over simple derivatives and she felt that she was certain of getting an A in her final.

The student successfully completed another series of questions and problems related to specific types of investment strategies related to the following: forward and futures contracts, the implementation of margin accounts, put and call options as well as "related" variations (e.g. long puts, long calls, etc.), net income calculations associated with these strategies taking into account exercise prices and premiums, and the strategies associated with straddles, strips, and collars (and net income calculations related to these investment positions). Once again, he did a wonderful job! He is well prepared for his final and is in a good place to receive a great overall course grade.

We mainly covered one variable equations, solving for the variables in simplified form. The student will need a lot of work and practice with negative numbers, especially understanding how to add and subtract negative values for single variable equations. She still has a lot of trouble understanding why certain numbers can or can't be added, subtracted, multiplied, or divided, and confusing the operations for different problems. We will need more work with operations.

The student and I reviewed and he completed his math homework on equal parts of a whole. We reviewed yesterday's homework on equal shares. I introduced understanding fraction bars. We reviewed division facts for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10. He does extremely well when practicing his skills using electronic resources vs. traditional pen and paper. He also studies/ focuses well when listening to Michael Jackson music. He achieved mastery on each of the above reviewed topics using the math program.
