Recent Fox Lake Tutoring Session Notes
At this session, we went over a quiz the student took before winter break and worked on his homework. This quiz covered finding slope from a graph, finding slope given two points, and writing an equation given a graph. He understands the concepts covered on the quiz, however, lost points due to minor mistakes. Instead of taking time to write every step, the student tries to solve problems in his head. This causes him to overlook simple calculations.
The homework we reviewed at this session focused on writing an equation given slope and one point location.

We covered solving systems of equations through graphing. The process requires graphing two lines and identifying their point of intersection and then checking the solution with algebra. Lines must first be placed into y=mx+b format and then graphed on a coordinate plane. The student struggled at first, but after some practice, he was able to solve the problems without any assistance. We will know the results of recently completed quizzes and exams in the future.

This session we covered a review and assessment of solving systems of equations. After a quick review of some skills, the student breezed through the post test.

We specifically went through concepts related to probability as well as hypothesis testing and confidence intervals. We went over when to use each specific hypothesis test and how to break down problems to determine how to proceed and get to the correct answer. We also went over some test taking strategies on how to approach multiple choice problems as well as free response problems. The student had a great attitude towards the material and was trying to learn as much as possible before his test tomorrow morning. I left the student with extra practice - specifically focusing on free response questions from previous AP exams.

The student and I worked through Algebra 2 today since she has a chapter test tomorrow in class. She did pretty well. Together we worked through her chapter review and repeated problem types until she was comfortable. We decided it would be best for her to create flashcards to memorize the formulas and to work through more practice problems to study tonight.

We did exam review on limits and continuity. He seemed to handle this part of the course topics as well as the next part of derivatives, and after a few examples he realized they were simple and he did them easily.
