Recent Delaware County Tutoring Session Notes
First meeting with the student. Topics covered were exponents, factoring, distributing, and polynomials via reviewing chapter quizzes given by the school.
For next time: The student has an assignment to complete the chapter review material we went over. I will then grade it and review any mistakes with him. Also need to cover Parabolic functions and the final review. If at all possible, it would be helpful if he brought his math textbook to future sessions so I can use the same methods as the teacher.

We focused on the science section today; we started with the student's impressions from the pre-test she took and then discussed how the real ACT science section is different from what most people expect; we talked through time saving strategies, what to focus on in the different types of passages, and tips for reading the tables and graphs; we practiced a few sections and talked about what she can practice on for our next session.

The student and I went over his questions about section 7.2 and 7.3 in the homework, as well as discussed some test-taking issues and strategies. His professor will not yet share the exam dates, the format of the exam, etc, but the exams make up 95% of his grade, and he needs to do well in this class to continue in his engineering program at school. We have not yet set a new date--he will contact me.

The student and I had a great session. She was feeling confused and not very confident about the use of present and past participles, so I helped clarify the two verb constructions for her, and then we did some oral practice. I had her write two short passages, one about "teniendo el dia mejor" using present participles, and one about "el dia peor que tenia ayer" using past participles

The student and I reviewed for his geometry final. We went through problems from Chapters 1-5. We reviewed concepts that were taught at the beginning of the year. The student displayed a firm grasp on the more recent material. He also reported he got an A on his last quiz.

The student and I did a quick review of strategies for each section. Then we did another reading and science section. She got a 34 on the reading and a 31 on the science. She is very ready for the test this Saturday.
