The student and I tackled the ACT English review, finishing all of it surprisingly quickly. He demonstrated a strong mastery of the rules of English grammar and mechanics, leading me to believe that his poor performance on the English test in his last ACT was caused by nerves. I have asked him to do a few more practice drills anyhow just to make sure.

Today the student and I went through his linear programming homework. I explained the general idea of what we were doing and what we were solving for, and he appeared to grasp the information very quickly. He completed his homework without a problem. Afterward, we reviewed some chemical nomenclature rules, and I suggested that he make flash cards to memorize the polyatomic ions and their oxidation numbers.

Today the student learned about the Pythagorean theorem and various ways of manipulating it. We learned how to identify right triangles by only looking at the side lengths. Using the theorem, we were also able to determine if a triangle was obtuse or acute. The student also practiced using the theorem to solve word problems. Last, we had some more basic algebra review.
