During my session with the student, we went over a grammar assignment, prepared for her earth science quiz, and began her social studies final review. She had the most trouble with organization for her social studies final review. I suggested that she use her textbook to answer the review questions, and to consider her task of organizing her social studies notes as part of studying for the final.

We first worked on rational expressions and how to solve them. We reviewed the FOIL method which she needed to review the steps on, and then we solved several problems multiplying and then adding rational expressions. After that, we worked on the quadratic formula. We reviewed how to use the formula and plug the numbers in. We went over labeling a, b, and c and then substituting the numbers in. We worked on a few problems where there was a perfect square. I first wanted to work on equations that could be solved with perfect squares only. This is a hard formula and the student needs more practice for the next session. She also gave me some other topics to review for the next session including completing the squares, zero property, and factoring. The session went well.

The student has an AP Language test on Monday in which he will be presented with up to six source documents and asked to write an essay arguing his perspective using the documents to illustrate or support his argument. We took a sample test of this kind and did a practice run.

The student and I worked on a new SAT test. After we went over every question and clarified every concept, I saw that he is improving. We will meet next Friday. We will finish the second test we started and then we will go over specific concepts that he needs to work on.

During this session, we covered a review for a chapter test. The student did well on the exercises, but the main concern and focus should be on the details. Being able to complete the problem in one or two steps, he should have time to double check his answers before submitting the test, specially those that are word problems, as it caused him minor issues identifying the correct '>' or '<' to use.
As for Spanish, he completed most of the exercises I provided him with, however we will revisit that on Wednesday, after he has completed his math test.

We covered using the addition method to solve systems of equations. We need to do more practice with equations that have zero as the answer since that seems to be the source of the student's mistakes. We will also do the graphing method and substitution method to solve systems of equations.
