We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

This was our first session in a couple of weeks and the student came back with great energy. We finished four of the problems we set out to finish for her portfolio and did a little extra. We covered different types of word problems, but mostly ones that worked with the logistic growth model. She has a quiz next week and she said this was exactly what she needed to study for it. Today was an excellent session.

The student was able to do her homework from her reading book. She answered Monday's and Tuesday's homework questions. She also read her SRP book with me. She read with fluency. Any words that she did not know, she sounded them out.

Today, the student and I went over her homework assignments together. One of the assignments was a packet of worksheets that she had started completing in class. The second assignment was a couple of assigned homework problems from her textbook. Both of these assignments went over geometry two-column proofs and figuring out whether or not pairs of angles or segments in given figures were congruent. As always, she stayed concentrated and diligent throughout the entire session.

The student and I began the session by going over his homework on functions, a concept he's grasping very well. The homework focused on domains and ranges, y-intercepts, and other concepts important to functions. We then worked on some practice algebraic equations that focused on some concepts that he has been struggling with, particularly the distributive property. He struggles a bit with getting his positive and negative signs correct when using the distributive property and multiplying. We will continue to practice these concepts while also moving forward with his current coursework. He has a great attitude and always gives it his best.

The student had a problem set in momentum conservation, including a ballistic pendulum, which she became quite good at solving. There were also elastic and inelastic collisions as well as explosions. She needed very little guidance by the end of the session.

Tutoring review by Perla in Gardena, CA
Today, the student and I reviewed for his upcoming English exam on To Kill a Mockingbird. His teacher created a very straightforward review, which helped us a lot. The student seems to have pretty good understanding of the book's theme and characters. He competed the questions on his first try with and 80% accuracy, so we reviewed and reviewed until he was at a 95% accuracy. I can tell from his first attempt that he will be just fine, and the fact that we reviewed over and over to get him to a 95% accuracy will hopefully give him a much better success rate. He is very intelligent, but I did make sure to remind him to review the questions once again before the exam.
