Today the student and I focused on Spanish.  We went over words and phrases that are helpful in the classroom.  Some of these were "como se dice", "que quiere decir", "escribe la palabra", "mas despacio", and "sientate".  Next, we did two worksheets about clothing and colors.  The student was asked to read a sentence in Spanish and write it's equivalent in English.  She didn't think she couldn't do it at first, but when I broke the words down, she realized that she knew her color words and completed it.  Then we played a game.  This is a great way to do something kinesthetic for learning.  We took turns asking the person to do something in Spanish.  She is coming along very well!

The student and I reviewed her practice test, and we also looked over past practice tests to ensure that she is best prepared for the test. We spent the last 30 minutes reviewing important test-taking skills, as well as breathing and relaxation techniques. She has been great to work with, and I'm positive that she will do well on the test.

Introduction to the placement test sections, order of difficulty, time management, common question types. The mother asked to focus on grammar first. We had to start with the basics: parts of speech, subjects versus objects, pronouns, basic sentence diagramming. Spent over an hour analyzing sample sentences and reviewing basic grammar rules. Worked on the first 11 questions of part 1. Discussed parallel structure re: the test's writing questions. HW: first section of CB grammar review - "parallel structure"

The student and I continued to prep for tomorrow's Chem 130 quiz. We did more practice problems and I quizzed her on Inter molecular forces and Polar/nonpolar bonds. I also helped her create a foldable study sheet so she can quiz herself and continue studying tomorrow on her own before the quiz.

First Session. Today we discussed the format of the exam. We talked about the different sections and how they are similar to what she is doing in school. She enjoys reading, writing and science. I gave her two reading comprehension passages she did very well. She was able to locate her answer in the passage and eliminate answers she knew were wrong. I then timed her on Fourth Grade Math questions. She did well with time management. Overall she has potential to do very well.
