Today, we went through some of the assessment online materials. After doing discussing targeted practices from the homework, we went through a full diagnostic, discussing vocabulary and strategies one final time. Lastly, we discussed how each of them could use their remaining time to best prepare for the test.

Today, the student and I worked on a quantitative quiz. We specifically focused on sequencing problems. The student has received accommodations for the exam, so time is no longer really an issue, but we are still working to make sure that he is answering problems efficiently.

The student and I reviewed the properties of triangles and circles, the two shapes most commonly seen on the exam. He practiced each concept as we learned it through a sample problem, and then attempted a set of problems on the various ways in which each shape might be tested. We also spent a bit of time reviewing quadrilaterals and general concepts like area and perimeter.

The student and I worked through two practice essay questions focusing on how to make a good outline before the writing begins. We then worked through a practice verbal reasoning section. She is doing fairly well on accuracy.

This is the second truly successful session where the student and I have focused on Verbal, and its clear that the extra sessions he purchased are going to be well spent. He is getting vocab questions right almost perfectly all of the time, and has improved his success rate on the Reading Comprehension. Now that bar he set himself is his minimum on our practices. This is fantastic. He did one Verbal packet that I provided, and one that came with his book. Today's session was spent reviewing incorrect responses, discussing reasons for the errors, and also beginning to develop a logistical strategy for taking the test, the focus of which is his homework for the next session.

In this session the student and I went over the results of her recent practice GRE. She improved several points in both her math and verbal sections. We went over the ones she got incorrect, and talked about overall timing. We also went through her essay and devised a new strategy to help her warm up for that section.
