We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Finance Tutoring review by Jessica in Westminster
The student and I finished her lists of sight words, and we grouped them by common sounds.  The student read a book of her choice and a reading passage that was tested at school to me.  After reading, she put a list of her sight words into groups and worked on spelling them as well.

Ran through a portion of each practice test (reading, math, vocabulary), just 5-10 problems on each, to get a sense of ability. Talked about previous tutoring content/strategies; tutee has mostly been focusing on vocab, and practice test results seem to indicate that is still a weak link, so that is what we will do for the two remaining sessions. I noted that the tutee employs a number of good multiple-choice strategies already, so that's good.

I reviewed with her the poem that we practiced from her textbook last week. She had memorized it and was able to read it by using Chinese characters. We played a memory game using the characters. We also played pin-yin roman letter spelling matching.

Finance Tutoring review by Dr. Réagan in Westminster
In this lesson we focused on reviewing for the final. We went over the formulas for GDP and CPI, market basket, defined, M1 the money supply, M2, monetary and fiscal policies, and compared and contrasted the differences between various markets such as pure competition, monopolistic competition, olio poly, and monopoly. Furthermore, we compared and contrasted sole proprietorships with partnerships and corporations. We discussed elastic versus inelastic demand and what causes a shift in demand. The student was excellent, she was thought provoking and she analyzed her answers quite well and gave excellent examples. She is ready to ace her final.

The student and I reviewed several capital budgeting problems. I first confirmed his calculations that he completed on his own (as a part of the "extra" homework that I provided to him). He did an excellent job. I also provided a demonstration regarding how to calculate NPV and IRR using Excel, and we worked through another extended version of a capital budgeting problem. We also briefly reviewed the format of a case that his group is working on and started reviewing a sample problem related to stock required rate of return that I will follow up through email or the next time we meet.
