Elementary Math Tutoring review by Brittany in Cambridge
We worked on several items today, including reviewing words from a book she had trouble reading; reading the book she had trouble with; introducing more words that she does not know and working on spelling them; practicing add and carry problems; and practicing borrow and subtract problems. We also worked on multiplication problem and tables. I provided her with assignments to practice the words, read the assigned book and work on multiplication tables and adding and subtracting.

The student and I worked more on histograms and box and whisker plots. I mostly had to check her homework. Next, she and I worked on some integer practice. She still struggles with subtracting negative numbers. She has definitely made improvements, but she's stronger in addition. After we worked on her practice, she and I edited her poems for an upcoming assignment.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Eric in Cambridge
Today's session with the student went well. We worked on addition, subtraction and a little on division. We specifically worked using applications on their new tablet. She has demonstrated becoming better and faster at completing the problems. Her class is starting to work on fractions and she seems to be following along which is a very good sign compared to a few months ago.

The student had a homework sheet that covered volume. Once she finished that, I gave her problems on perimeter, area, and volume. I gave her more difficult problems than were on her homework and showed her how to do them. She understood how to do the more difficult problems after I'd shown her how.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Sarah in Cambridge
The student and I reviewed a number of the multiplication facts we had been working on before break. It was good to watch her slowly be able to figure them out. Then today we focused on her 3s. We looked at which ones she knows and then, in various different ways, I had her repeating problems or solving problems for me. The repetition was helpful for her to start to learn and memorize these.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Barbara in Cambridge
For this session, first we practiced multiplying x 2 and x 3,using cards to make the problems random. The student is getting much faster with her multiplication facts. Then, she completed a worksheet on doubling numbers up to 20. She did very well, completing the sheet in approximately 2 minutes. Then, I taught the concept of using doubling to multiply by 4. After a brief explanation, she did very well, completing the worksheet easily. Next, we completed a math logic problem. To finish the session, she read a brief passage and was timed to determine fluency. She read at 98 words per minute. She would have read faster, but she was excited because the story was about a boy who had a dog named Sammy. Since she has a dog named Sammy, she kept wanting to discuss the story instead of read it. I estimate that her actual reading fluency is over 100 words per minute. I will continue to test to verify her true score.
