Specifically Covered: Whole numbers, numbers to 10,000,000 , place values (i.e.; millions, one hundred thousands, ten thousands, thousands, hundreds...etc.), comparing values, pronouncing large numbers, writing out numbers (three, four, five), word problems associated with comparing words, number patterns, multiplication, and division. Scores/Grades to note progress? N/A. First quiz is this Thursday/Friday. The student expressed the most difficulty in saying large numbers aloud. Therefore, when she wrote the number out in word format she struggled at times. More specifically, she struggled with one hundred thousands, ten thousands, and thousands. We went over a good amount of problems and resolved this issue. We found that it worked best when she would say aloud the number as she wrote it out. That way, what she said matched the word format that she was writing, which matched the number in number format presented in front of her. Another issue that the student demonstrated was value placement . After reviewing through value placement again, she did a great job on this topic. It did help her to review through her times tables and division tables at the beginning of the lesson. I plan to review these multiplication and division problems each session as a quick review. Extra practice: I left the student with the work that I created for her during her session, which she completed during the session. She can review the many problems that she and I did together based upon the problems published in her book. Concerns? None. She is a wonderful student! She quickly picks up on everything and demonstrates consistency. I look forward to working with her during her next session.

The student and I studied homework problems on pages 60 and 61 of the study text for his math program.

The student took the first half of his exam today and he said he felt very confident. The second half will be tomorrow (Tuesday). He should be fine. We started off with some practice problems that I put together which covered linear regression and correlation. These were AP style questions similar to the ones he would see on the AP Stats exam, and he got all but one of them correct. We then finished up the discussion of linear regression. We went over residual plots and data transformations to wrap that section up. We then went into categorical data and frequency tables. There are several different types of frequency tables and we went over them in detail. We finished up the session with an introduction to data collection - which we'll dive into in more detail next session. The student also showed some interest in experiments and data collection in the real world, so we talked about that after our session. He sounds interested in STEM sciences and the experiments involved in those fields, so I suggested he take some courses in those areas once he gets to college.

Well, for the first session, I would say this went pretty well. I started by introducing myself, and then we jumped right into our review of the student's homework assignment for the night, which was a worksheet about the types of angles and angle pairs. We started by reviewing the basic definitions of these angles (for example, a linear pair is defined by two angles that are both supplementary and adjacent). Once we went over the basic definitions, she was able to work her way through the assignment. The last part of the assignment was basic algebra, which she is pretty solid in. All in all, a great session.
