The student and I worked through some homework problems she has due for class in the next few days. I am glad to see that she is finding the tests easier and that she is understanding the new material well!

The student and I worked on a couple of sorting algorithms (bubble sort and insertion sort), and then focused on recursion for the rest of the session. Save a single very difficult problem, she was able to solve all of them with minimal assistance. She did an excellent job overall.

This was our first session working together. We worked on a Java Swing drawing program. After adding basic functionality for an assignment, we worked on adding multiple drawing type options by adding another menu to the application. (Hence, we added functionality for drawing lines, circles, and also basic oval functionality, leaving some details for later if we wished to revisit it.) The student seemed to grasp the content very well.

We covered recursion and worked on a Java problem involving string scrambling. The student had a fairly strong grasp on most concepts. She should review if/else statements and control flow.

Today the student and I created a new program using Processing. This program involved several concepts including implementing interfaces and extending classes. The concepts of arrays was also covered. The program basically had three types of particles, each with different types of movements/ sizes. In general, I think he understood the concepts fairly well. He knew how to declare and access array variables, how to declare appropriate "for" loops that didn't necessarily start at position zero, and how to properly use interfaces. Overall, this was a great review!

The student and I reviewed his homework, which prompted me to teach him about the Java concept of Inheritance, and the "extends" Java keyword. We used the example of Employee -> Manager -> Executive from his homework.
