The student and I spent our time discussing her plans for talking with her financial aid counselor and her teachers as well as reviewing the memory chapter of her psychology book. She has three weeks until her next psychology test and needs to do very well on the exam. I told her that by Friday she needs to have finished the memory chapter and by Sunday when we meet she needs to have made it at least five pages into the learning chapter. We also agreed that by Sunday she absolutely needs to have gotten the history notes from her teacher so we can start making flash cards in preparation for her next history exam. She also has a math exam coming up next Monday. As she did well on her last two exams, I told her to go to the math help group Thursday and Friday after school so they could help her with the polynomial and factoring chapters. On Sunday the student and I will review psych, make flash cards for history and try to review some math if we have time.

First session, still getting used to the space and schedule. Math: first student, review of 10-base adding & 2 times tables; second student, workbooks digits 10-20, computer games. Reading: first student, Trumpet of the Swan; second student, 6 books from library. Social Studies: atlas use, intro to Japan, vocab. Writing: review of daily reading.

We spent a great deal of time working on prep for the student's English class, discussing character loyalties and conflict in Julius Caesar. He also completed an English and Reading Comprehension mini-test.

The student and I covered strategies involved for the Reading section of the ACT along with going over multiple passages. Towards the end of our session we covered some Math, and I gave him some practice problems to complete for our next session.

For part of the session, the student worked on his drawing of a cell to go on his visual presentation. I suggested working on other things we could collaborate on, so we did some work on his Geometry homework, which involved polynomial equations. The student did well with the math work. We also spent some time reviewing Latin -- I quizzed him on the noun and verb endings that he knows so far. He has a good grasp on the material overall, and was inquisitive about what's to come.

We worked on a comprehensive accounting question that had us prepare financial statements for a company. The student understood much of the course material but needed help finding errors in his financial statements. We reworked the steps for preparing a Statement of Cash Flows under the indirect method to figure out why his balances were off.
