Physical Science Tutoring FAQ
Fundamentally, physical sciences are the most extreme of the hard sciences. Principles often require more than observation and explanation, instead necessitating a strictly mathematical basis for events. Fields like physics and chemistry can be viewed and observed in everyday life, but understanding the mechanics and reasoning behind the characteristics and predictability of these events is far from simple. Whether you are working through a chemistry requirement in high school, studying for the MCAT Physical Science section, or preparing your master's thesis on particle kinematics, the concepts in front of you can appear foreign and confusing. Compounding the difficulty of physical science is its inherent integration with mathematics. Even if you have conquered Newtonian mechanics on a conceptual level, it can still be difficult to apply the appropriate equations and complete the intricate calculations required to master the subject. In many instances, this is where a professional, personal tutor can come in handy. They are flexible, knowledgeable, and experienced in a wide range of teaching styles.
In order to help you succeed in your endeavors, Varsity Tutors can help you connect with physical science tutoring throughout the United States. Our approach is tailored to each student's individual needs and concerns in physical science. When you contact your local educational directors, they can begin to build a student profile based on your academic concerns, level of expertise, learning style, and even your personality. Using this comprehensive profile, we can then help you select a tutor in your area who is an expert in the field you are studying, can teach to your learning style, and can effectively communicate difficult topics in intuitive terms. These factors can be the very difference between successful and unsuccessful tutoring.
Physical science tutoring offers you the ability to control the material covered in each session, working with your tutor to develop a completely customized learning plan for your studies. Your tutor forms a comprehensive and personalized curriculum plan that provides assignments that are tailored to your proficiency in the subject. Further, the assignments are based on your personal learning style, whether you are a tactile, visual, auditory, or combination learner. Through these efforts, your tutoring sessions are more likely to be successful. In addition, your tutor provides ongoing feedback throughout the lessons to ensure that you understand your problem areas. In many cases, physical science tutors can offer suggestions, tips, and tricks to honing and maintaining your understanding of the subject. You may be given materials, such as CDs, books, videos, and other items that are designed to support your learning.
Rather than struggling through endless course periods and overcrowded lectures, consider the one-on-one environment afforded by working with a private tutor, where you'll receive the personal attention you need to fully master the topics you must know for upcoming exams, research projects, or applications for internships and jobs. Tutors even make lessons convenient and flexible, planning sessions around your busy schedule. They are available during evenings and weekends and can meet anywhere, whether you prefer to meet in your own living room, a local cafe, or even online. There are few tutoring programs that offer this level of flexibility and functionality. In addition, if you have an upcoming test that you need to prepare for, you can request additional tutoring sessions during the weeks beforehand. They can meet as often or as little as you need.
Take your education into your own hands with the outstanding physical science tutoring. Contact your local Varsity Tutors directors today! Educational directors are available to work with you on your student profile and provide you with a list of high quality, experienced tutors who are capable of assisting you.

Recent Physical Science Tutoring Session Notes
Worked with the student on his Geometry and Physical Science review packets. Has a good understanding of the material, but needs to be more confident. Also needs to review slope, distance formula, and midpoint formulas.
I helped the student work on her physical science homework. Currently, the class is covering beginning physics so they are discussing velocity, acceleration, and average speed. She had a simple worksheet to finish which was half definitions and half math problems. The math focused on average speed and velocity.
We dealt more with electricity and magnetism, solved some homework problems together on the web, and discussed more thoroughly the relationship between a moving point charge and the directionality of the electric and magnetics fields that it generates.
Reviewed the class notes the student had taken with his study group, went over and corrected missed questions from worksheet to be used as a study aid. Examined study aids in online textbook. (Has no paper books). Topics in Unit 2 included Energy - Potential, Kinetic, Thermal, Temperature, Heat - Also questions about types of fuels, where they come from and their advantages and disadvantages. Determined that most missed questions are higher-order thinking questions - synthesis and analysis. The student is bright (he asked a few really good questions last night)...I suspect he simply has trouble connecting his ideas logically and getting them on paper in a hurry.
We started by working on test corrections for physics and reviewing old material. Then we began states of matter and phase diagrams. After a lecture on the topic we worked together on interpreting sample diagrams. We then worked on the student's problem set. By the end he grasped the concepts and was able to apply them. I assigned him reading to complete by next session.
We went over research paper format and how to perform research using internet tools. We compiled several sources for a research paper and started a works cited list in proper format.
