As a young middle school student, I required a tutor to improve my reading and writing skills; I was a Polish immigrant, and was struggling with English. My tutor taught me to enjoy learning, and eventually I became an English major while simultaneously pursuing a pre-med track. I can empathize with younger students who are struggling and need someone, as I once did, to make them as enthusiastic about learning as I am now.In my capacity as a private middle school and high school tutor for both math and biology, I have had the opportunity to help other students for a year now. I've used my love of learning to help me work with students who have struggled with their courses. Tutoring students who did not enjoy algebra taught me to appeal to a student's interests in order to find ways to make the material more accessible and relevant.I used to struggle in math. I found the concepts hard to grasp and sometimes beyond my reach. But with hard work and some guidance, I eventually excelled.
