Educating students has been my passion, originally inspired many years ago by a warm and caring English teacher. I wanted to become just like her, so that's what I did! If you would like to know some personal information , I am originally from upstate New York with 3 adult children, plus 5 more whom we have raised over the years. 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson are also happy additions to our family. Should I also mention our cute little pets? Those are a dog and 2 cats. For me, the reward in teaching is knowing that I am helping students with skills and understanding that will lead to success in life. The best job in the world is having the opportunity to tutor motivated students who want to learn!

Hey everyone! I am currently a Junior at Harvard University majoring in East Asian Studies with a specific focus on Japan and Japanese media. On campus I am also President of the Harvard College Japan Initiative, a student-run organization that devises an annual Japanese career fair and works with several Japanese companies and groups to run programs both here in the U.S. and in Japan. I also work at the Yenching Library on campus in the Japanese Collection. In my spare time I like to consume Japanese media (games, novels, movies) that I buy on my trips there, act, and practice martial arts.I have been tutoring in a variety of subjects for over 10 years and am extremely passionate about teaching and education. Sometimes students need assistance tailored to their specific needs and situations that regular classes cannot provide, and so one of my greatest joys tutoring is being able to give one-on-one, specialized help and the little extra push that they need to help them shine. My mother is a former teacher and so from a very young age I've always been drawn to education, and my love for tutoring is just one manifestation of that.I'm very approachable, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about anything! I'm really looking forward to working with and getting to know some of you!

I have worked with a diverse group of students, and I have always enjoyed watching them improve and succeed no matter their original ability level. My experience is primarily with grades 7-9 in the classroom setting, but I can also work with older or younger students. I specialize in English, but I can also do test prep, specifically for AP exams and the reading and writing portions of the SAT and ACT. I have a BA in English from Wheaton College (IL), and an MS in secondary education from Johns Hopkins.

I graduated from Gordon College in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. I focused on political relations in Europe and Latin America. After graduating, I received my Master's in International Relations, where I specialized in Spain-US relations. I have worked or interned for the Department of State, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and two members of the United States Congress. I also had the opportunity to study at the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain, investigating international financial systems during the 2007-08 Financial Crisis. I had my first taste of teaching as an ESL volunteer as an undergraduate. I knew I had a passion for instructing; so while a student, I worked as a Teaching Assistant and later a Graduate Assistant for undergraduate courses. Don't let my Irish-American name fool you, I have worked in Spanish, French, and Catalan at the professional level. I plan to pursue a law degree in the near future. I bring eight years of research and writing and teaching in the US, Spain, Canada, and Chile, and I'm excited to bring my diverse background to the table in order to help you reach your educational goals.

As someone currently studying for the LSAT and preparing to go to graduate school, I can relate to the challenges of being a student. I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2010 with a B.A. in Psychology and Communication Studies. I am extremely passionate about academics and learning; the value of each was inculcated into me at a very young age. I tutor a variety of subjects largely because I have so many areas of interests and have been privileged enough to pursue knowledge in those areas. I even enjoy tucking away "useless facts"...in fact, those very tidbits got me past the Jeopardy! Online Test and into the Contestant Audition! If I've learned one thing throughout my academic career, it's that everyone learns differently. In my opinion, a great tutor knows how to meet a student where they are in their work and findthe specific and best way to help them achieve their goals. I have honed this skill over many years of tutoring many different types of students. Additionally, with me, a student will havethe benefit of working with someone who has been on their side of the table. I was tutored in Math both when I was younger and in college, and currently have a tutor for the LSAT. I actuallylove being tutored, as I get the personalized attention that I need, as well as little tips and tricks that aren't necessarily taught to the larger class. I believe that having this experience as thepupil allows me to be an even more effective tutor. So, why do I tutor? As I mentioned above, I love knowledge. I love sharing knowledge. But most of all, I love helping students learn to love what they're doing. Frequently, when a student reaches the point with a tutor where they begin noticing that they are making progress, they begin really believing in their ability to do the work independently and they are more likely to be excited about their academics! Also, I know from experience that a good tutor is capable of helping a student through a specific subject or class; but, a great tutor can transform the way a student operates in all of their academic work and prepare them to be an even better student across the board. I strive for the latter as a tutor. So that you can have a better idea of who I am, I will tell you a few non-academic things about myself. First and foremost, I have an undying love for Star Wars that began and has beennurtured since I was eight. I own approximately 200 Expanded Universe books and comics, and far too much memorabilia. I also play professional ultimate frisbee. I've been playing sincecollege and they just formed women's pro teams this year, and yes, you read correctly, pro ultimate frisbee. In other words, I get paid (peanuts) to chase plastic. Other things I enjoy arereading a great mystery, watching Netflix, playing Xbox, riding horses, playing with my massive dog, and staying in shape!

I was one of those weird kids in school who loved taking tests. My colleagues constantly wondered at my ability to ace pop quizzes and finals alike. -- they all wondered how I could get consistent high marks without staying up all night studying. Here's a few of my strategies:-- Each test is a game, treat it like one! All games have rules. There are free points on every test that can be won by just knowing these rules!-- Study smarter, not longer. Once we know the rules, we can apply them to make our study hours more effective. Fewer hours spent cramming and better scores!-- Relax! Being anxious about your grade doesn't help you take the test. I know techniques to help manage the stress of performance anxiety, and let you perform at your best.
